The Wireless Headset Interface (WHI) will interface a commercially available wireless telephony headset to a commercial diver radio so that the Diving Supervisor can enjoy wireless communication with the divers in the water.
Simply plug the Wireless Headset Interface and your wireless headset into the Dive Control diver radio. Use the microphone and earphone gain controls on the Wireless Headset Interface to tune the wireless headset audio input and output to match the diver radio you are using. Then enjoy wireless communications to the diver radio. The Wireless Headset Interface is supplied with plug adapters to fit Helle, Amron, OTS and Divex diver radios. The Wireless Headset Interface & Press-To-Talk (WHI-PTT) unit functions the same as the standard WHI, except that it has a wireless PTT capability. It can be used either as a simple WHI or as a WHI-PTT. If the WHI-PTT is used just as a WHI, then no power is required. However, the PTT function will require power, which is provided by connecting the splitter cable (included) to the wireless headset power adapter. The WHI-PTT enables the supervisor to operate the diver radio PTT function wirelessly by using the supplied wireless remote switches. Thus, a 2-wire diver comms system (such as simple air diving comms or 2-wire bell comms) becomes truly wireless. An adapter to fit Amcom radio PTT jacks is supplied. PTT adapters for other radios can be custom made on request. An adapter to fit Nautronix diver radios is now available and may be purchased separately. This adapter contains attenuating circuitry to make the Wireless Headset Interface easier to adjust when used with Nautronix radios. All radio adapter will fit both the WHI and WHI-PTT as the adapter jacks are common to all units. WHAT DIVER RADIO'S DOES IT WORK WITH?It works with both air diving radios and saturation diving radios fitted with helium unscramblers. It is currently being used successfully with Amron/Amcom, Divex, Helle and Nautronix diver radios. A wireless headset system is most suitable for 4-wire open comms systems and this is where the advantages of wireless are most evident. Audio quality with sat divers and bell comms is excellent. It will work with 2-wire systems, but a separate push-to-talk is still required. The Poly (formerly Plantronics) Wireless Telephony Headset is not included and must be purchased separately. |
The Graphic Equaliser Kit (EQ KIT) is an add-on kit for use with the Wireless Headset Interface (WHI). It enables the supervisor to make bass and treble adjustments to the divers’ audio back to the Supervisor. It connects into the diver radio audio out (headset) circuit between the diver radio and the WHI. It only makes adjustments to the audio that the supervisor hears. It does not affect the audio recorded to the black box or to the divers.
The EQ KIT, can be used to reduce lower frequency ambient noise from the bell, such as scrubber and fan noise. It also allows the supervisor to increase the higher frequency audio (3kHz – 6kHz) to compensate for loss of voice clarity in helium and for hearing loss such as industrial deafness and age-induced hearing loss in this range. It can also be used to reduce the higher frequency hissing noises sometimes caused by diver breathing. It allows each supervisor to personally adjust the audio frequency output of the diver radio to improve helium speech intelligibility. The EQ KIT consists of a 7-band mini graphic equaliser, power supply, adapter cables and connectors to fit to your existing WHI. The EQ KIT requires a 220 volt or 110 volt power source, much like the Plantronics wireless headset system does. A transforming power supply is included in the EQ KIT. The EQ KIT is compatible with all diver radios where the Wireless Headset Interface can be used. It will work with all the supplied adapters, including the Nautronix Modular Adapter. NOTE: The EQ KIT is not a helium unscrambler. It will not change the divers voice back to normal air range voice. It will clean up the diver's helium speech audio to make it clearer, sharper and easier to understand. |
Power Adapter kit for 12vdc and 9vdc wireless headset and Wireless Headset Interface PTT (WHI-PTT) power. Both the Poly wireless headset and WHI-PTT (PTT function only) require 9vdc power. The Power Adapter Kit will supply sufficient 9vdc power to the Poly wireless headset and the WHI-PTT where there is no mains power supply available, such as on mobile dive systems or at temporary dive sites. The Power Adapter Kit consists of:
